Sabin Hossenfelder of Backreaction writes about her trip to New York City. She has a nice photo taken by a friend she just met through her blog. On her way back to Perimeter Institute a customs officer mistakes her for a theological physicist.

For me there is no mistake. Theoretical physics is theological physics. I have been writing about the equivalence of academic physics and religion for a long time. Doctors of Philosophy and Doctors of Theology are in the same profession. Before Newton cosmogonic scenarios marketed as religious absolutes were owned by Doctors of Theology. Newton raided European scholasticism and transferred the authority of Doctors of Theology to his school and to Doctors of Philosophy. Ever since then cosmogonic speculations is owned by Doctors of Philosophy. Does this make them Theological Doctors? Yes and No.

Theological Doctors were clear about the source of their knowledge. They didn’t pretend to sell supernatural as natural philosophy. They did not claim natural pedigree for revealed knowledge. They said that cosmology presented in their book was authored by a supernatural power and then revealed to them by one of his agents. Doctors of Philosophy on the other hand claim that their cosmogonic scenarios, the same theological crap previously marketed by Doctors of Theology, are now supported by scientific evidence. So Doctors of Philosophy including the cosmologists and physicists who delve in cosmology are charlatans. In this regard they are bottom dwelling marketers of mythology. Even lower than Doctors of Theology ever were.

Right across the street from where Sabine Hossenfelder is standing there is the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. This structure represents the cosmology of Doctors of Theology. To show their power and authority these doctors built a block-wide structure with 13th century architecture. Why would someone build a 13th century European building on the 20th century Manhattan? It is marketing. It is power. It is authority. Doctors of Theology defined this particular kind of archaic building style to be the standard way to build churches.¹ Only if it is built in stone with the same stone carvings that the old country stone masons knew how to carve, then, and only then, an architecture can be called a Cathedral. Donald Trump builds showy towers and stamps his name on them, the Catholic church builds cathedrals with the style of its long gone powerful times. Then why doesn’t Ford build Model Ts to reminisce about their greatness? The difference must be in the functionality. Customers of Ford expect modern functionality. Customers of the church do not expect functionality, they expect authority. This is what the church gives to them. The doctoral authority is proportional to the size of the Cathedral. In physics doctoral authority is proportional to the ugliness of the Lagrangian.

Where she is standing Sabin Hossenfelder cannot see it, but across the street from the Cathedral there stands Atlas carrying the universe on his shoulders! I could never find out all these years if the Rockefeller clan had Atlas facing the cathedral to spite the Church? In any case Atlas represents the other cosmological worldview invented by professional mythmakers. This is the worldview Doctors of Theology the corrupters of languages defined as the pagan worldview.

The church started as a reaction to this “pagan” theology then dominant in the Mediterranean. Atlas was a Titan. Titans were the race of half-god half-man giants who warred against Zeus and the Olympic gods. After their defeat Atlas was condemned to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders for his role in the uprising.

So here we have in one corner of Manhattan two major cosmological worldviews invented by professional Doctors. I call the mythmakers of the ancient Mediterranean to be doctors even though they were not officially doctors but they served the same purpose. They were professionals employed by ruling classes to program the population. This is called marketing. It has not much changed since then. Humans are programmed, like computers, through language. Unlike computers humans would not do as instructed if they are ordered by other human beings. But humans, especially females, will do anything told to them through gods they were taught to believe since childhood. This is why the ruling males have been keeping women addicted to the occult (and sugar) and hero worship through entertainment. If presented to them as fun, whatever, women will get addicted to it. This is all standard marketing. When the rulers want to instruct humans they use deities. When ordered by deities humans will do as told. They would even voluntarily mutilate themselves or sell their newborn’s freedom to unhuman organisms. This is how humans are programmed.

Doctors of Theology and Doctors of Philosophy are the programmers who help the rulers control the population. Doctors are collaborators of the unhuman organisms against humans. So both the Cathedral and the mythology represented by Atlas are programming tools.

And note the story represented by Atlas. He and Prometheus rebelled against the Orgus, the unhuman marketing department of rulers, and tried to help humans. So, Atlas actually rebelled against Zeus and the gods. Since Zeus was replaced by the unhuman hierarchy represented by the Church, Atlas effectively rebelled against what the church represents today.

Both Atlas and Prometheus failed. The message to humans from the gods: do as you are told or your liver will be fed to eagles. Atlas I think got the easiest job. At least he has a tremendous responsibility. He is carrying the world on his shoulders. He is the envy of every Doctor of Philosophy. They would kill to know what Atlas knows. He is the only being, human or demi-human, who knows how much the world weighs. Speculating about the mass of the universe has been an obsession of Doctors of Philosophy. Be warned that any number they would tell you would be a lie.

But this is not the end. Where does physics enter? Well, here we have two major cosmologies, Christian supernatural cosmology represented by the Cathedral and the mythological worldview represented by Atlas. The two cosmologies are separated by Fifth Avenue. So Fifth Avenue is physics? At least this is what Sabine Hossenfelder and her Doctor of Physics colleagues would want us to believe. I think. If physics is not theology, and if it is not mythology it must be in between since it answers the same questions by a supposedly different method.

What I would tell to Doctors of Philosophy the inheritors of cosmogonic scenarios from Doctors of Theology is this: Cosmology is mythology. It does not matter what method you use to compute the mass of the universe. You can compute how much Mickey Mouse weighs but your answer will be of interest only to Disney Corporation and never to science. By definition cosmology is mythology. If mythology is enforced as absolute truth then it is religion. You cannot change this fact. As Doctors you may endow yourself with infinite amount of authority and claim to have access to hidden knowledge, regardless, no matter how much authority you claim to have you cannot know the part of the universe you do not know.

Both Doctors of Theology and the mythmakers of the antiquity defined a cosmos and marketed it as the universe. As corrupters of language doctors made the universe and cosmos synonyms. They are not. Doctors have been exploiting this false synonymy to define their own cosmos (an anthropocentric truncation of the whole) and market it as the true whole universe. They then define the universe as a whole and then define the whole to be part of another whole and because they named their new whole Multiverse they claim that it must exist. These are old scholastic sophistries used for ages by Theological Doctors to make their living. Now Doctors of Philosophy do the same.

Judging from tourists flocking to the Cathedral we know that they need professional doctors to tell them cosmogonic stories as the true story of the universe. From birth humans are taught to believe in the authority of the professionals. So they believe Doctors of Philosophy when they tell them their latest cosmogonic mythology as absolute scientific truth. “Here’s the Big Bang” Doctors tell them, “and you are here.” They go home happy. Why deny them this happiness?
