I just found this blog called Backreaction which contains one of the best science writing on the web.  Physics education and regulation of academic physics industry mentioned in this post are two issues that I am also interested in.

Physics education wastes the most productive years of a human being for bureaucratic reasons. People who enter the profession in order to study nature instead end up studying physics 99 per cent of which they will not use when they are finally allowed to do real research. Physics education is an archaic and bloated bureaucracy which is still stuck in the 17th century European way of teaching science. One observation: there was no google in the 17th century Europe.

European Scholastic Doctors invented this closed system of education to clone Scholastic Doctors like themselves who would make their careers by hiding information from the population in order to sustain their monopoly on human reason. Doctors of Philosophy profit by hiding information. Today people want to share information not hide it. Doctors of Philosophy love hierarchical networks where the information flow is strictly controlled from the top. Today people want non-hierarchical networks where information flows freely in every direction. It is time for the Doctorosaurus to perish by evolving into scientists. Or should that be Doctorosaurii?

So physics education is just like the big record companies trying to sell you 13 songs if you want to buy 1 song. But physics sells you 13 billion equations in order to hide one proportionality you need to know. Just make yourself familiar with R3T2 rule than you would know enough to go out there and start doing your own research. Therefore, there is something obscenely wrong with physics education. I invite Doctors of Philosophy in Physics and their pupils to start moving themselves into the 18th century. After this first step they can then progress toward the 19th century. And so on. But there is a shorter and simpler method. This method is radical but effective: Drop out now! Drop out now and do your own research now. Not someone else’s research who promises you some future returns in the form of bureaucratic advancement for your investment of your time now.

Physics education is a gigantic sink wasting precious human resources. Communism was a similar hierarchical bureaucracy invented by Europeans. If Stalinism could be toppled Newtonism could also be toppled.
 
How long will it take for this Scientific Revolution to take place? In this sense Scientific Revolution is the transfer of authority of Newtonian Doctors of Philosophy to the people. Scientific Revolutions happen when a Scholastic System becomes a regulated industry. I don’t know when academic physics will revolutionize itself into a regulated industry. What do you think?  

I have already written about the self-regulation rules invented by physicists.  Self-regulation rules never work. In fact the real reason self-regulation rules exist is to stop professionals from cheating each other. Professional Doctors create self-regulatory rules so that no professional can get unfair promotions over others. Self-regulation rules are not created for the advancement of science but for the advancement of Doctors. So peer review is not about science. Peer review is a self-regulatory rule invented to make sure that each practitioner gets his professional points fairly so that he can move up in the hierarchy. Even then every professional physicist complains about the system and favoritism rampant in the distribution of research grants. All these are symptoms of an unregulated professional industry.

Why are these issues important on the human scale? It is important to resolve the problem of physics education because it is a serious waste of human resources. I know this first hand. I started to study physics to learn about nature. The more physics I studied the more physics I learned. The more physics I learned the more ignorant of nature I became. Then I quit academic study and did my own research. I went to the library to find what I was looking for. I became productive. Automobile manufacturers found out about this method a while back. They call it Just In Time or Kanban. Today Just in Time learning makes sense and it is much more efficient than the push method now used by Doctors of Physics. Imagine physics to be a huge warehouse that a doctoral candidate must memorize where things are and waste his entire time in education rearranging items displayed on shelves. Scholastic Doctors call this activity derivation.

Then you would realize that academic physics has not yet even reached the alphysics  stage. Physics is still in a pre-pre-scientific state of teaching rituals and professional ceremonies and then measuring how well a candidate has learned these rituals. This is the well known method of the primitive society called the European society ruled by Scholastic Doctors who intentionally keep the society in a primitive state. In such a primitive society citizens must get their science from shamans. The more dominant the institution of the shaman in a society is the more primitive that society is.

A shaman is a middleman who provides its customers with authoritative and entertaining cosmogonic speculations which cure all intellectual ills. These are called nowadays Theories of Everythings by shamans who manufacture and market them for the Big Media. This fits well the job description of famous physicists peddling best sellers.
