Modern physicists do not like to be called scholastics. The reason for this is that modern physicists are Newtonians and they believe in the Newtonian mythology. Physicists believe that Newtonian mythology taught to them at school is history.

According to Newtonian mythology sold as history to physicists, Galileo is a heroic Newtonian who existed to bring Newtonianism to its present perfect state. In this Newtonian mythology, Newton the Great Scientist, the King of Kings of Mechanics, was the only legitimate heir of the Scientific Revolution started by Galileo (remember that Newtonian “historians” tell us again and again that Newton was born on the calendar year Galileo died! Can there be a more scientific cause and effect proving Newton’s legitimateness as Galileo’s scientific heir?)

Galileo fought against the Aristotelian scholastic doctors. Newtonian mythology tell us that Newton completed Galileo’s war against the scholastic doctors and firmly established science in Europe.

In the Newtonian mythology, Newton single-handedly extinguishes scholasticism from the face of the earth. Newton and his followers are scientists, according to modern Newtonian mythology, the rest are philosophers, metaphysicians, magicians, astrologers and so on.

Newtonians experiment. (Never mind that Newtonians call what Cavendish did an experiment.) The rest do not.

By definition, whatever Newtonians do is science, whatever others do is metaphysics.

History tells a different story.

Newton is a scholastic doctor. Newton has no intention of abolishing scholasticism. Newton changes the name of European scholasticism. Before Newton Doctors of Philosophy call themselves Aristotelian Doctors. After Newton the same doctors call themselves Newtonian Doctors.

Is there any doubt that Aristotelian doctors have switched to Newtonism from Aristotelianism? No. The name Newton carefully chose for his pupils says it all: Natural Philosophers.

What was the title of that book Newton wrote, that monumentally unreadable and unread book? Whatever, but the title has in it “Natural Philosophy” if I remember correctly. So, people who used to call themselves Peripatetics because their master Aristotle liked to hike while teaching, now started calling themselves Natural Philosophers because their new master is a master of marketing and gave them a new book to comment on to practice their profession.

But in the 19th century the word “philosopher” acquired the connotation of “scholastic” and Natural Philosophers, the scholastic doctors who hate to be called scholastics, changed their names to physicists.

So why is it that even though history leaves no room for doubt that modern physicists are scholastics they hate to be called scholastics? I don’t think there is another professional class in the world who refuses to be proud of their profession.

I don’t understand. What is wrong with scholasticism? A scholastic is someone who studies theoretical knowledge. What’s wrong with this?

I assume, the reason, as the reason of everything in physics is, Newton.

Newton defined Aristotelian scholastic doctors as bad scholastic doctors and he defined his disciples the Newtonians as scientists.

What does this have to do with Galileo? That should be the next post.visa card credit accessfree credit merchant card retail account2007 tax adoption creditonline accredited degree mastermileage credit cards air compareusa credit alaskacredit statistics 2007 card debtloan bad mortgage credit adverse Map
