Newtonism is an arbitrary standard established to unify European science.

The word arbitrary may appear to be placed there arbitrarily and the reader may think it should be removed to raise the standard of the sentence.

Newtonism is a standard established to unify European science makes sense since we may argue that all standards are arbitrary anyway.

This poster is convinced that it is necessary to qualify standard with arbitrary because here standard alludes to the scholastic concept of Law of Nature and not to any scientific standard.
