Two comments from Not Even Wrong:

Garbage Says:

“Nima Arkani-Hamed thinks big. He has a theory that our universe is one of an infinite number of universes”

In which part of the landscape did that happen?

“Arkani-Hamed first made a name for himself by suggesting that our universe is five-dimensional.”

They forgot to add he also discovered 3 1 and time travel.

“Then he moved on to the multiverse, theorizing that our own universe has a hidden feature called “split supersymmetry,” which means that half of all particles have partner particles.”

He’s been busy, he also came out with SUSY, SUGRA, the Heterotic string and last episode of ‘numbers’.

“The theory will be tested soon in Switzerland’s brand-new Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and if the LHC finds Arkani-Hamed’s partner particles”,

Are we looking for the Arkino too?

“it could prove that the multiverse is real — and that our place in it is that much smaller.”

This is too complicated to even attempt analysis…

It’s pretty amusing how people like Distler get all excited over something when a celebrity like Seiberg says it, but not so much when a nobody said it years before. Same thing happened with the anthropic landscape. Modern physics is just a fashion show.

I am glad to note that I am not the only one who notices that doctors of physics are fame seeking opportunist corrupt professionals. Their only goal is to play the media game and obtain as much fame as possible by feeding the Big Media absurd and absurder.

We need to add Arkani-Hamed in the list of up and coming Media Shamans behind Brian Greene, Lisa Randall, and Sean Carroll. There is stiff competition in this field. The extra dimensions, multiverses, hidden stuff, time travel, and religious mysticism galore….

These comments shows that Big Media owns physics. Doctors of Physics are in collusion with Big Media. Doctors of physics are betraying freedom of science by selling their manufactured absurd to Big Media for their own profit. This is what all professionals do.

Then, why is there no outcry about such parasitic professional shamanistic class who call themselves physicists?downloads free movie hentaitan mika movieswingers moviesupskirt moviesmovie bukkakemovies female free masturbationfree movie pornfacial moviesmaking moviemovie posters old

While I’m somewhat individually sympathetic to physicists who are under intense pressure to conform to the cutting-edge… … … Wait a minute, no I’m not.

I don’t even know why I said that, other than, I really want to say that, but I can’t, because I continually expose their willful ignorance of hard evidence and facts, to absolutely no avail. There is no excuse.

There obviously needs to be some kind of watchdogging oversight, but don’t ask me how to get there from here…

Don’t worry though, because they got theirs coming if the LHC finds nothing or only a higgs.

    Island,

Thanks for the comment. I wrote here about a possible entity to regulate the corrupt academic physics industry. How to get there? Probably it would take at least a decade.

… if the LHC finds nothing or only a higgs.

I think that whether or not LHC finds nothing or only a higgs or whatever is irrelevant. As
    Peter Woit has been writing

Prospects for string theory remain bright, since with each new experiment the situation is: heads they win, tails doesn’t count.

As long as academic physics remains unregulated physicists will protect their absolute authority over experiment. Physicists have the hereditary right to define any experiment to give the result they want.

No, supersymmetry isn’t the same thing. Stringers have to find more than just a single higgs to justify their existence, and everybody else has to find a higgs to justify the standard model at that energy scale.

The next comment after JoAnne Hewett’s at Not Even Wrong is by String Theorist who says:

JoAnne is mostly correct, but tenure is tenure, and we will write the history of theoretical physics, because nobody is better qualified to understand it than us.

I think this is the point. String Theorists are the majority. They have the most Doctorates issued in physics. They have the authority to define and spin whatever LHC measures or not measures to fit whatever theory they want and they will go ahead and ask for the next collider to observe whatever scenario they cook up next.

I just saw this book by Leon Lederman called God Particle written about ten years ago. In the most recent printing of this book he wrote in the Introduction how he predicted the fall of particle physics if God Particle (I think this is Higgs) was not observed. As far as I understand physicists always make the same claim about the next collider proving their scenarios right.

But I don’t know what supersymmetry is and I cannot tell a higgs from Mr. Higgs so I am not questioning the scientific part. I am saying that string theorists will simply define whatever LHC finds as the proof of string theory.

By the way, if JoAnne Hewett is reading this I would recommend to change that photo of herself in front of the blackboard. I like blackboards but it is not like Einstein scribbling stuff on blackboard.

    You miss two important points:

    1) That “Stringaling” that you quoted is *assuming* that something *beyond* the standard model *will* be found that requires their level of mathematical sophistication.

If not, then they are going to have an extremely hard time getting anybody to fund a damned thing, and there are experimentalists betting money with string theorists over this very issue who will not let anyone get away with data-fudging, either.

    2) Woit, Smolin, and others ARE the oversight that you say doesn’t exist. In this case, it most certainly does exist, finally, and thank “god” for them, because they’ve opened the door that makes the system work the way that it should at this level.

You need to find a new target for your crusade, because this one is already in the sights of many.

    Island,

Thanks for the comment. Sorry if I misunderstood your point. But the way I read that quote by stringtheorist was that “we will write the history of theoretical physics…” meant “regardless of what any experiment finds we will define it the way we want and we will write the history of theoretical physics as string theory history.”

Now I see the second part implies what you wrote that there will be a discovery that will require string theory interpretation.

My crusade, not that I have one, is definitely not against you or Peter Woit or Lee Smolin. I would like to see the authority of professional academic physicists regulated so that some experiments that they own, such as the Cavendish experiment, are freed and goes to public domain.

Collider physics is big business. There is more things involved than physics or science. There is politics involved for sure.

The point of the original post was that today physics is done in the media. And string theorists play the media game.
