With the establishment of the cult of the new, old looked old.
The academic art bureaucracy solved this problem brilliantly by adapting modern as its creed. This label made them perpetually new. Perpetually avant garde.
The same replacement of the old static creed with a perpetually new one happened in academic scholasticism in the 18th century when Newton replaced Aristotle with himself. Newton was centuries ahead of his time. Newton defined science in the sense of modern. Newtonism is always science by definition.
This way Newton has been able to transform himself into a new prophet.
It takes a marketing genius backed up by tremendous authority to define the new religion of Newtonism as science. This is very rare. New religions with lasting powers are not created very often. Newton is the modern Jesus. All religions appear to their constituencies as science. This is why Newtonian priests called physicists think Newtonism is science.

Yes, physicists don’t question Newton one bit…that’s why there’s non-Newtonian physics like quantum theory and the theory of relativity.
Besides, it’s not like experiments actually back up Newton’s work…except for the experiments that first year physics students do in Mechanics 1 A.
Do you have an actual alternative to “Newton’s mysticism” or are you just complaining? It’s unscientific to just bitch and moan about how unscientific a theory is, you need to give an alternative.

Einstein thought Newtonian force was occult and it should not be in physics. Instead Newtonism turned Einstein’s equation into occult. Einstein spent his career to remove Newtonist occult from physics but British Newtonists would not let Einstein topple Newtonism. We can complete Einstein’s quest. Once we recognize that Newton’s force is occult and does not exist in nature the rest will follow.
Experiments do not back up Newtonism. Nature repeatedly rejects physicists’ attempt to impose Newton’s authority and G on her. In astronomy G does not exist. In astronomy only GM exists. And first year physics labs where students “witness” Newton’s Soul manifesting itself in a Cavendish miracle is really important. This miracle is the foundation of physicists’ belief in Newtonian occult during their career.
Yes. There is an alternative to Newton’s mysticism. There has always been one. It is called Kepler’s rule. Newton divided Kepler’s rule in two as 1/RR and R/TT and labeled each Force. Then when he wanted to make astronomical calculations he eliminated Force and used Kepler’s rule but he claimed to use Newton’s laws to make astronomical calculations. This is still how Newtonian physicists work. They write Newtonian terms in order to save Newton’s authority then they cancel them because nature does not recognize occult terms. You might want to check propositions III.4, III.8 and I.57 to I.59 in Principia. Or you may want to take a look here for an explanation of how Newton used Kepler’s rule but claimed to have used Newton’s laws in his computations.
What Newton did is more than fraud, it is a crime against humanity. I think physicists should be the first to recognize Newton as a British propagandist who corrupted the science of physics. We can rectify physics to its original state by removing Newtonian religion from it.
