There has been progress in the discussion on the nature of G. Physicists now agree that

1. Cavendish did not measure G
2. It is “sloppy” to claim that Cavendish measured G.

In other words, physicists say that even though they claim Cavendish measured G they don’t really mean it. Physicists now say that

Cavendish measured the Newtonian attraction between masses.

From Cavendish’s data, physicists say, they calculate G.

Now, therefore, we need to show that Cavendish never measured the Newtonian force. No pendulum can measure the occult. And Cavendish’s pendulum did not either.

At the next stage physicists will say that,

even though we say Cavendish measured the Newtonian attraction he didn’t really measure it. But Newtonian attraction has been measured plenty of time since then.

This discussion shows how much physics is coupled to natural language. Physics is polemical scholasticism and physicists have absolute authority to overrule experimental results and make new definitions to save Newton’s authority.

Since it would be easier to convert the Pope to paganism than to expect a physicist to question Newton’s authority I don’t expect any physicist questioning Newton’s force soon. But if other amateurs and non-physicists join this discussion then eventually, when a critical mass is reached, physicists will define Newtonism as scholasticism and claim that they have always been the most ardent anti-Newtonians. This would be most welcome. I encourage amateurs to join the discussion. The goal is to remove Newtonist religion from science and identify Newtonism as religion. If this is done by physicists so much the better.
