Bee objected to my calling physicists “Scholastic Doctors of Philosophy” and I told her that I would address this issue soon. Here it is:

It is true that physics is not a monolith. I wouldn’t want to classify a media shaman like Lisa Randall and Bee in the same category. I wouldn’t want to classify a physicist who is employed by NASA to do tedious data analysis of some white noise with an engineer at MIT who calls himself physicist but who is really an engineer. There are all sorts of physicists.

Is there a characteristic which is common to all physicists?

Yes.

Is that characteristic a scholastic trait?

Yes.

What is the common characteristic of all physicists?

This characteristic must be found in their education. All physicists are Doctors of Philosophy. Bee does not dispute that she is a Doctor of Philosophy but she claims that this is a professional title only and it does not make her a scholastic doctor.

I disagree.

Take a Doctor of Theology. The Catholic doctrine is not a professional triviality that Doctor of Theology obtains in order to practice his profession. The doctrine is the integral part of his practice. Doctors of Theology practice the doctrine.

The same is true for Doctors of Philosophy. These two sects of Doctorhood were only separated in the 18th century by the efforts of Newton. What a coincidence, don’t you think?

What is the doctrine Doctors of Philosophy must accept to be admitted into the profession?

This doctrine is Newtonism. With no exception a Doctor of Philosophy must believe in Newtonian doctrine in order to become a physicist.

Therefore, just like a Doctor of Theology, a Doctor of Philosophy is a scholastic doctor in the service of his scholastic master. This scholastic master may have a human figurehead, the Pope or Newton, but the master is really the hierarchy.

The hierarchy pays the Doctors and Doctors work for the hierarchy to defend and to teach the doctrine. This is the deal. The Doctors of Philosophy practice the Newtonian doctrine.

As part of their job description Doctors of Philosophy must believe in and protect and teach and preach the Doctrine with fervor. Anything less leads to discommunication. Once admitted to the brotherhood no Doctor will be fired, but they will be discommunicated if perceived as being disloyal to the brotherhood.

This unquestioning obligation to the doctrine makes the Doctors of Philosophy scholastic doctors. The allegiance of Doctors of Philosophy is not to science, it is not to themselves, it is not to knowledge, it is not to wisdom, no, it is to the Scholastic hierarchy.

If you look at history, you would see that scholastic hierarchy is one of the strongest and most powerful institutions in continuous existence since the beginning of history. Scholasticism is not called for nothing the true oldest profession.

Since you agree that, as proved by history, scholastic hierarchy exists today, if you, the Doctor of Philosophy, the traditional employee of the scholastic hierarchy, is not the current employee of the scholastic hierarchy then who is it? There is no other group of professionals who call themselves Doctors of Philosophy. You call yourself Doctors of Philosophy and you are.
 
Yes, it is true, most doctors sincerely believe that they are scientists. This is so because they have been indoctrinated to believe in Newtonian professional mythology and never to question it. I am not sure if they know they are fooling themselves.

Let’s prove that Doctors of Philosophy are scholastic doctors. When I say scholastic doctors I mean scholastic doctors hailing to you from the scholastic dens of medieval Europe. Imagine those despicable medieval Doctors of Philosophy who obstructed science for millennia that you, today’s Doctor of Philosophy, consider to be the epitome of the anti-science and the antithesis of everything, you the scientist, represents.

Sad to say, dear Doctor of Philosophy who is reading this, but you are he, the despicable anti-science!

How can this be? Think about it. Your profession is the same, your job title is the same, subjects  you study are the same, the method you use to study your subjects are the same, the schools which employ you are the same, the hierarchy is the same…. then if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck it must be a duck.

There are only two things which changed: Now you pray to your master in the language of equations not Latin and you pray to Newton and not to Aristotle.

Now consider this monster you call an equation:

F = GMm/rr.

First you are so blinded by Newton’s authority that you think this is an equation. You cannot see that this is a definition. Not only that, as a Doctor of Philosophy, you can never ever understand the difference between a definition and an equation. This confusion of yours which is caused by your blind obedience to Newton, is the reason you created that immense monument to scholasticism you call the String Theory.

Second, which is my point here, note that you see no problem writing Mm. Outside of fantastical hallucinatory world of scholasticism multiplication of two pieces of matter makes no sense.

Multiplying M with m has no meaning. It is not even absurd.

Only a scholastic Doctor of Philosophy who calls himself a physicist would multiply matter with matter and see nothing wrong with it. I am sure this must be a valid operation in one of the infinite varieties of universes invented by these wonderful scholastic physicists. If there is no such universe as yet an entrepreneurial physicist is sure to define it and publish a paper about it and prove that in some spacetimes obeying some species of FRW universes according to one or the other formalism of String Theory approved by Princeton Mm makes perfect sense therefore F=GMm/rr is perfectly correct and anyone who says otherwise is a crackpot. No scholastic Newtonian priest would hesitate a moment to create a new absurd universe to save Newton’s authority. After all physicists routinely doctor experiments to save Newton’s authority why not create a universe as well!

You, the Newtonian scholastic Doctor of Philosophy in denial, by multiplying M and m to save Newton’s authority you prove yourself that you are a Scholastic Doctor of Philosophy. This is proved by yourself by your blind belief in Newton’s authority. To save Newton’s authority you have no qualms about multiplying matter M with matter m just because Newton told you so.

There is no physicist who could deny F=GMm/rr or question the authority of this sacred Newtonian dogma. Dogmatic belief in the Newtonian nonsense F=GMm/rr is the common characteristic of all physicists.

Scholasticism is defined as the dogmatic belief in your master’s doctrine without questioning it. Therefore, all academic physicists are scholastic Doctors of Philosophy exhibiting all the characteristics we associate with the medieval Doctors of Philosophy.
