Discarding the still new for a new one to satisfy the whims of a bureaucracy called fashion seemed strange to citizens who were still subjects of human rulers. Subjects became citizens and citizens became consumers of image templates sold to them by giant unhuman organisms. When citizens started to discard a new jacket in order to buy another jacket with different color they became consumers. Consumers are addicted to new. For the consumer if it is not new it has no value.

The cult of the new extends to intangibles like myths as well. Myths were once heirlooms passed from generation to generation. Now myths too are packaged like any other commodity. Every cosmological season brings a new and improved cosmological myth tied to the latest revolution in string theory. It is a mathematical fact that with each revolution string theory gets 5 per cent newer and more experimental. Therefore, string theory is the best mythology for the consumer society. In fact it is the consumer society which created the scholastic commodity called string theory. 

With the establishment of the cult of the new shopping became the law of the land. Citizens must shop to live or face an early expiration into the fringes of society just like the new crap they keep buying.

Shopping also serves another purpose. Shopping creates a grid in society and everyone knows where she stands in this grid rated according to her purchasing power. Citizen-consumers love grids. Same goes for their mythology. Cosmologists design and market fashionably consummable absolute cosmic grids with a big arrow telling consumer “YOU ARE HERE.” An educated consumer is the best customer of mythology.  

What does this observation tell us? Scholasticism—the myth packing industry, which includes physics and cosmology practiced by doctors of philosophy—has always been controlled by the political hierarchy. The content of physics is defined and controlled by the Big Media and the Big Org. Newtonism is the state religion and physicists are Newtonian priests packaging the official state mythology as science to citizens.
