Freedom of Science

This is not a science issue. There is no equations involved. This is an issue which involves the entire humanity and the future of humans on this planet.

When you look at the progression of the printing press you will see that it empowered amateur researchers for a brief period only. Galileo took advantage of this wave against the professional doctors of his time. But professional doctors took control of the new media and created their own proprietary language and all gains for the amateurs were lost. We already passed the initial empowered amateur stage. Today Doctors of Philosophy control most of the scientific blogosphere and they impose their authority on the amateurs. Soon they will start to hoard and hide information and channel it to big publishers and monetize their monopoly.

Since the discovery of the written word a professional Priestly class called scribes always existed. The scribes morphed into European Scholastic Doctors by way of copiest monks.

Today the same scholastic scribes call themselves Theoretical Physicists.

What is important is to observe who owns the content produced by the scribes? Who creates the content? Scribes? Or scribes just write about what they are told to do by the corporate entity which employs them? Who pay the scribes?

From the beginning the scribe was an employee of the “publisher.”

Initially the rulers were the publishers.

Then the church took over the lucrative publishing business and also education which exists to be a market for the giant publishers.

The medieval copyist monks, how funny, morphed into today’s theoretical physicists. What’s that too funny is that monks actually produced a useful product and served a purpose by preserving human knowledge coming down from the antiquity.

Theoretical physicists of today are useless content producers for the giant publishers. Theoretical physicists mostly produce academic regurgitated junk that they submit to global publishers who fill the pages of outrageously priced publications to the scholastic institutions who employ the theoretical scribes.

The higher tier of Doctors of Philosophy, higher tier meaning more famous, also work for the giant publishers. They are the top scribes who get the big book contracts for writing bestsellers on cosmogonic subjects.

The ratio of how much content the scribe produces on his own, how much of it is copying and recycling and how much of it is paid varies from one era to another. The production of the theoretical scribes is also tied to the caste they belong in the scribal tribe. As mentioned above, the top caste gets the giant book contract, the low level scribes, just scribble papers assigned to them from higher caste members to fill up their required number of content so that they can move up in the scholastic caste system.

Once you replace the image monk pools sitting on benches copying manuscripts all day long with theoretical physicists sitting in front of a computer screen putting together theoretical physics paper culled from previously published such papers the parallel becomes even more obvious.

The same thing will happen with the internet. It is already happenning. Doctors and the big corporations are taking over the internet.

Incidentally this is what most users want. For most user the chaos of the internet without a centrelized authority is scary.

You can see this in people’s attitude in news. They are scared that they will read about a piece of news item which does not have the authority stamp of a professional class which present themselves to the users as impartial professional.

The vast majority is not interested in the freedom and power given to them. They don’t want to think, they want to consume what is sold to them by authoritative professionals. This is true because this is how human child is educated. We are indoctrinated to obey the authority of the professional. Not only that we are indoctrinated to seek the authority of the professional.
